Zirconium 705
Zirconium 705 (Zr705) is alloyed with Niobium 2.0% to 3.0%. Zr705 has similar corrosion resistance but a much higher strength comparing to Zr702. Zr705 has higher formability than Zr702 because it is easier to press into shape in the processing due to its high tensile strength.
Zirconium 705 has good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties to acid, alkali and salt, especially in high temperature and pressure water and steam. The most prominent is, a nascent oxide protective layer will grow when before layer stripped off. There is no significant corrosion turning point for Zr705.
When corrosion conditions permit, Zr705 is more economical to be used as shell for pressure vessel construction, because its higher strength makes thinner wall thickness design allowable, which can greatly reduce the material consumption.
